two tone

Finally got my second caanoo today.

This is what I did with it:

The next update I promise will be far more significant... and i'm sorry for my camera, it's a flip mino HD and it like, can't seem to focus on anything that close. I'll try to get another one....

Hopefully I can power through the next couple phases so I can finally release a WLAN demo for people to try out.

Soon!

Thanks!

Bye!

more wifi...

have wifi working end to end now, but the performance on the client side can get really choppy.

I have to go off and think about this for like... a few days..

Wonder how well this will perform with 2 Caanoos.

have to make it work! have to!!

This is me going nuts

Even though I'm quiet in the video, I was yelling earlier:

Like the description says, in this video, the caanoo is actually the host and the linux box is the client.

Caanoo seems to be pretty powerful after all.

I only did movement for now. I would do the rest but I really should go to bed instead. don't worry though, more to come!

worrrrrrrrddddd up

thanks for watching~

videooo

Only 30 seconds for now. Sorry for the watermark:

The video shows basic implementation of a few things:

-hits
-blocking
-chain combo (2-hits only so far, gotta draw more)
-jumping (vertical only, later I will have more legitimate arcing jumps)
-parallax scrolling

There's also some sound effects, but I couldn't get that into the capture, I'll try and do it for the next one.

There is currently no AI, I controlled it using both players' controls. I should be tackling network play pretty soon, since I have the caanoo wifi dongle. That'll be a big deal, I'll go nuts if I actually get that working.

Thanks for watching!

an introduction...

Hello!

Welcome to my personal game development blog.

The game I'm currently working on is probably the most complicated out of any of the games or game-like projects I've done in the past. I wrote a flash game about a year ago for a class when I was at CMU, and when I was much younger, I made little platformers and action games using tools like MAXIS Klik N Play or Corel Click & Create.

Anyway, it's a 2D Street Fighter/King of Fighters-inspired fighting game, and my target platform is the GP2X Caanoo. Fighting games are my favorite, so I figured I'd take a crack at it. For now, I'm calling it "Fight" until I think of a better name. Development is being done completely in C++ using SDL (and potentially some of GPH's own libraries). The game started out initially as a PC game project, but I began to transition development to the GP2X Wiz a few weeks ago (Caanoo's "predecessor" system). However, since the Caanoo just came out and has better controls, more features (haptic motor, G-sensor, WiFi that is less of a PITA to set up), and far superior build quality, I decided to jump ship for the time being. This wasn't too hard to do, since the Wiz and Caanoo have almost identical underlying hardware. When I finish the game, maybe I'll go back and port it to the Wiz.

I will be putting up more screenshots and a video soon.

Thanks!
